Last weekend I volunteered at the Brides Against Breast Cancer fundraising event, hosted by the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation. The organization takes donations of used and new wedding gowns from brides, salons and designers, then sells them at a deep discount. The money raised is used to grant wishes of men and women who have breast cancer, such as trips and family reunions. Over three days at the Tyson’s location, $53,000 was raised. It was a lot of fun meeting with newly engaged brides and helping them try on dresses and in some cases, purchase THE dress!

I am loving the wedding dresses at J. Crew. They are clean, simple and just beautiful. J. Crew also offers the service of a wedding specialist in helping with the wedding party attire. Images from J. Crew.

In January, I had the opportunity to attend a weekend of events for Engaged! Magazine at The Willard. The weekend started off with a cocktail reception honoring Preston Bailey and Sylvia Weinstock. We enjoyed some fabulous hors d’ oeuvres and cocktails. While at the reception, I had the chance to meet Preston and have him sign his book, Fantasy Weddings. I will be having a contest and will give away this signed book to the winner, so check back for details!

Federal City is a caterer a client of mine was considering for their June wedding. We attended a tasting that was really quite amazing. Federal City’s office/kitchen is a row-house in NW DC that is updated, comfortable and perfect for these type of events. We of course had food created by their skilled chefs, but I wanted to highlight their new pastry chef, Marla Romash. I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a caterer who had such a talented in-house pastry chef. Marla offered about 10 different cupcakes (representing wedding cakes) ranging from chocolate mousse and lemon to tiramisu. We each ate about 5, and yes, my clients did decide to contract with them! I am often out of the office meeting with clients and vendors. The best way for me to keep in touch when I am, is with my BlackBerry Curve 8310 . I have to say this is the most user friendly device yet. It also has a lot of great features like the camera, spell check and GPS navigation system (no more printed Google maps). Image from Amazon.
